Cody West's AUDIO ASYLUM*

created by Jason Lee Davis

I built Audio Asylum during the Summer of 1991 for a client, Cody West. After it's completion, it remained in the truck for 10 months before it was removed in order to sell the truck. The pictures are all that remain. I invested about 800 hours in the creation of this system. Unfortunately, the system never made it to a sanctioned event and was never pressured with a meter. The best description I can give as to how hard it hit is to say that I measured the flex of the floorboard at 2.75 to 3 inches with the seat removed. I was sick for some time when this one was dismantled. That event was a driving force in convincing myself to create PHANTAZM.

Audio Asylum's Mid-Bass and Sub Enclosures Enclosures installed in truck -
The subwoofer system consisted of 16 Kicker Competition 15" Woofers loaded in a series-tuned quasi-sixth-order bandpass enclosure. The total enclosure volume was 60 cubic feet including both high and low end chambers. The four Kicker FreeAir 8" woofers reproduced the mid- bass frequencies while the Kicker 5-1/4" mids added depth to the rear fill.
Amplifier and Processor Rack -
The amplifier/processor rack held the Audio Control EQT's, Sony Crossover, Sony Disc Changer, and the seven Linear Power and Rockford amps. The rack had an integrated cooling system which circulated air throughout the rear area. The main power relays and circuit protection devices were also located in the rack as well as an 8-D commercial battery in the bottom.

I am almost as proud of this system as I am Phantazm. I was given complete freedom in the design and creation of this system.
* I made-up the name for this system and reserve the right to use it again on one of my own, particularly since this system was only run for 10 months! -Jason
