Jason Lee Davis' THUNDER CONSTRUCTION

...from humble beginnings

Jason's First Speaker Box My First Speaker Box and Amp Rack-
I built this box as a project as a Senior in my High School Agricultural Mechanics Class back in 1987. The box held 2 Pyle 10" Poly woofers, 2 soft-dome midranges, and 2 2X6 piezo horns. It hit 127dB at my first T.O.W. contest in September of 1987. Although only a Punch 45 is shown in the rack, it was built to accomodate an additional Punch 75 and Punch 150.
My First Dedicated Subwoofer Enclosure -
Shows individual sections of the enclosure ready to be put together inside the truck. The enclosure was built in 2 pieces and assembled inside the truck. I had to use a sledge hammer to knock it into place. It fit tighter than O.J.'s glove. hehe

This box was originally designed for 4 Punch 10" subs but was soon modified to accomodate the 4 Punch 12" subs. That was a modification WELL worth the effort.
Amplifier and Processor Rack -
The amp rack held a total of 4 amplifiers. Half of the Rockford Power 650 was used to drive the 4 Punch 12" woofers. The other half set idle. I only used half of the amp because of the impedance of the woofers. That was still plenty of power for the subs. It pressured at 136dB in T.O.W. and H.H.O.T.R. sanctioned events.

Amp/Processor Rack -
The left compartment of the rack held the the Crossovers. I initially used an Audio Control 2-XS and a Rockford XV-1 as shown in this picture but I later replaced the 2-XS with Audio Control's EQX. The right side compartment housed the power and ground distribution buss bars and the system fuses.

From the top, the rest of the amp collection is visible. In addition to the Power 650 I used a Punch 45 (my 1st amp), a Punch 150, and an Autotek A-180. The head units were a Sony XR-6300 cassette in-dash and a Sony CDX-A10 10-disc Changer (the original disc-jockey). The signal switching was done by a Punch PA-1 Pre-Amp.

the evolution continues...
