The authentic assessment event, an evaluation of your process of mastering the material specified in this course and assigned to date, will take place throughout our Thursday night class. Do prepare by reviewing our reading assignments, our class discussions, your own writing. And reflect. Type up "5 things I have learned so far in this class and how I can show that I know them." Bring your Literature books to class and be prepared to engage in Lit Circle Discussions. Books must be completely read by March 1.

Case Study Intro - on Thursday, Feb 2, bring a typed description of your case study. Include first name only, age, grade, some family background, and an initial assessment of the child's literacy skills. Explain how you evaluated these skills (what pre-assessment data did you collect, and how - it could be informally gathered, just say so). Finally, defend your choice - what makes this case study interesting, and relevant to our study of Language Arts, and what do you hope to learn. Read Gunning chapters 1 & 4, and Fillmore & Snow (2000).pdf |
