THE
GROUP WORKSHOP (English
100/110)
FIRST, THE WRITER should tell the group
something about the project:
a. What’s the assignment?
b. How did you approach it? That is, how’d
you come up with your topic? What drew you to it? Did the topic come easily to
you or did you struggle with it for a bit?
c. What are your concerns right now?
d. What would you like us to focus on as you
read it?
THEN, THE WRITER reads it aloud to the
group while they listen closely and ready themselves to respond to the
questions that follow.
a. What did you admire most? What part in
particular? Point to it. Why?
b. What part confused you? Why?
c. What did the paper make you think about?
d. What would you like to hear more about?
FINALLY: The workshop day ends with the
tutor gathering the written feedback from students, letting them go a little
early (about ten or fifteen minutes early), and sitting down with the writer to
discuss comments and help her create a revision plan.
