Revision Plans for Your Final Portfolio

Directions: Take a look at the feedback you received on your Midterm Portfolio, as well as WA6 and WA7. Respond to the following questions in as much detail as possible. Use a separate sheet of paper so you’ll have the room you need for an adequate response to each question (where relevant).

DUE: Monday, 11/21/05, during our scheduled Presentation 2 conferences (on your Individual Presentation)

  1. Take a look at WA2. Was it marked “unacceptable” and are you required to revise it? If it was marked “acceptable” and you do not intend to revise it, move on to #5 Otherwise, go to the next question.
  2. If WA2 was marked unacceptable, do you understand what makes it so? Read over the feedback I offered, and summarize the key concerns here. Name at least three key concerns, and be as specific as you can.
  3. How are you going to go about revising WA2? What specific questions do you have before you begin this revision?
  4. When (specifically) do you expect to have this revision completed? It isn’t due until 12/05/05, but plan your revision deadlines in ways that will allow you at least 1-2 days to complete each revision of each writing assignment. Best would be to leave yourself enough time to bring each by the Writing Center at least once. Some of you are required to bring one or more of your drafts by the WC. Don’t forget to build this time into your revision schedule.
  5. Take a look at WA3. Was it marked “unacceptable” and are you required to revise it? If it was marked “acceptable” and you do not intend to revise it, move on to #9 Otherwise, go to the next question.
  6. If WA3 was marked unacceptable, do you understand what makes it so? Read over the feedback I offered, and summarize the key concerns here. Name at least three key concerns, and be as specific as you can.
  7. How are you going to go about revising WA3? What specific questions do you have before you begin this revision?
  9. Do the same for WA4 and WA5. If you are not required to and/or don’t plan to revise WA4 or WA5, move on to the next question.
  10. Remember that WA6-WA8 have to really wow your readers. We certainly have high expectations for WA2-WA5, but we expect even more out of WA6-WA8. As we’ve discussed, these higher expectations only makes sense, as WA6 and WA7 are revisions of earlier drafts (in some ways) and WA6-WA8 come at the end of the term when you should be doing your best work. Make certain your revisions of these essays are as strong as they can possibly be. Keeping that in mind, respond to the same set of questions (above) with respect to WA6 and WA7.

I will be responding to these, but I’ll try to get them back to you right away as I want you to share your answers with your tutors. You should also use the attached “Revision Guides” to assess the effectiveness of your WA2-WA5, including what you may need to make those drafts as effective as they can possibly be.
