ER Model:
The concept of having an external level, a conceptual level, and the internal level
provided a good understanding of how to logically abstract the interface from the
implementation of the database. I also liked how this tutorial focuses on the notation
used (an entity being a rectangle containing the type name, attributes in an oval,
dashed line for a derived attribute, ect) rather than focusing on how to create the
entity relationship model in a particular program....(D May)
Relational data model: It
discusses the relationships between columns and rows, as well as, primary keys and
foreign keys. Further, it stresses the importance that no order is needed for this
type of data model. In summary, the site is recommending that you draw a box for
each grouping of data items and then insert the individual
fields that relate to that group. That will help you to
visualize the model.(S Conine)
Crowsfoot(Bernat)
... data model broken down very
very easy to read and understand nothing too complex. They also give good pictures of data
models. They list some of the benefits and pitfalls and ... the process. (M Kenney)
a good description on how to draw a data model for a single entity class.
It uses diagrams to help show what is described in the text. They give an example of
a entity class as a customer who rents videos from a store. This simple example allows one
to easily process the information about the different types of attributes an entity class can have,
such as composite, multi-valued, and derived attributes. The source also contains
information on how to model databases that are not single entity and describes relationships
and constraints....(M Holloway)
... does a great job of breaking
down the steps to assembling a data model...it would help create a data model, whether it is
single entity or not. It talks about setting domains, creating and identifying keys, and
assigning datatypes. J Yetman Wilson
Agile:
This website gives a good overview of how to draw a basic
data model. It explains what a data model is and gives
insight on the correct way to accomplish the creation of
such a model. It also explains the different notations and
how to identify relationships and other information that is
useful to know when creating a database model. (M Clair)
Agile:
This website is useful in the sense that it provides a brief overview of what an actual
data model is. It distinguishes between conceptual data models, logical data models, and
physical data models. The description of each model and how to model data is then given
and broken down into categories that describe the process: 1.Identify entity types
2.Identify attributes 3.Apply data naming conventions 4.Identify relationships
5.Apply data model patterns 6.Assign keys 7.Normalize to reduce data redundancy
8.Denormalize to improve performance (H Gutierrez)
ERD: Good source of information on the topic. Fairly easy to navigate and information was pretty
easy to understand and follow. Offered diagrams and steps to achieve end results. (J Tyler)
Wiki:
The easiest to find (and easiest to display and understand), it contains a lot of information,
with a little concerning single-entity data modeling towards the beginning. (K Parish)
Google Books:
A few other resources such as Google books yielded results where the linked section briefly
mentions single-entity data models, with an illustration ...(more from Parish)

... it goes over the basics of modeling (such as entity attributes), and it also goes over
more advanced techniques like efficiency. (M Troutt)
...it gives complete directions on how to create a data table which I found to be very useful
for creating a single entry class. It shows step by step how to use netcool in setting up
the table and its relational data which makes it quite simple to while also saving its user
time and tons of work. It has instructions for selecting data types and other relational
data that is related to the company and data types you would be needed to fulfill the needs
of the user. I think this site could prove to very useful for someone who is a first time user
and new to database modeling. (S Gaines)
Resource Evaluation: ... an informational and news website in data administration and data management.
The site ... gives a concise but accurate view of data modeling. Several important and common terms
are explained with helpful illustrations that further develop the concept. Entity relationships,
how to draw relationships, and even how to draw other types of models ...(J Revilla)
