I am originally from Commerce, Texas, home of Texas A&M University-Commerce. Upon graduating from high school, I attended college at East Texas State University, where I was very involved in college life as a Chi Omega, a Little Sister to the Sigma Chi Fraternity, Sweetheart of Sigma Chi, and Golden Leos. Upon graduation with an accounting major, I moved to Dallas, Texas and worked as an internal auditor for the corporate offices of both Dr. Pepper Company and Pizza Inn, Inc. From there I moved back home to Commerce, earned my masters and teaching certificate and taught my first year in Wolfe City ISD and the next nine years in Commerce ISD.
In 1998 I was offered and accepted my current position of clinical instructor at Texas A&M University-Commerce. After 21 years of teaching, I cannot imagine doing anything else. I am very proud to be an educator........and continue to enjoy my job each and every day.
In 2002, I married Emerson Adams. We live in Commerce and Emerson is a professional hunting guide.
In November, 2003, Content Literacy, An Inquirey-Based Case Approach, written by Dr. Wayne Linek and Dr. Betty Sturtevant was published. I'm very honored to be featured in the first chapter of this book. It's a textbook of case studies of effective middle and high school classroom teachers and it focuses on my teaching experiences in 1997, one of the six years I taught sixth grade social studies for Commerce I.S.D.
As hobbies, Emerson and I enjoy travel, animals and the outdoors. We have an adorable Shih-tzu mix (Bailey), one cat, one lab, four German Short Hair Pointers (used for Emerson’s guiding business) and a few beagles......we also raise beagle puppies on the side as a hobby.
