Service on Major Professional Committees
- Higher education representative on the Region Ten Education Service Center Advisory Committee 1992 to 2011 (Represent higher education institutions to Regional Service Center)
- Member, Texas State Southern Association Committee, Secondary & Middle Schools 2000-2006 (Policy & accreditation body for SACS in the state of Texas for K-12 schools)
- Southern Association of Colleges & Schools Council for Accreditation and School Improvement; Regional Commission Member 2000-2006 (governing council for SACS; serves 11 state area in Southeastern US)
- Governor Ann Richards’ Committee that arranged the 1992 Governor’s Quality Conference held at Brown Convention Center, Houston- A national conference hosted by a different governor each year (this committee of 35 worked for a year organizing and promoting this conference attended by more that 1200 people from all US and international business, government and education communities).
National Service
- Service as Reserve Officer, US Air Force, 1967-1994 (see details on last page)
- Staff service at National Jamboree, Boy Scouts of America, Virginia, 2001 (35,000 scouts- 2 weeks); Also in 2010, same location, (45,000 participants).
International Service
- Service on two medical/education missions to Russia in 1994 and 1996 fitting hearing aids in the Rybinsk School for the Deaf and consulting with Rybinsk Public Schools (fitted hearing aids for 100+ children and some adults in this Russian community 200 miles north of Moscow; also presented to public school faculties)
- Presented to Humanitarian University graduate class in Rybinsk (125 at lecture) on higher education in the US
- Provided Staff Development sessions for English Language teachers in Rybinsk, Russia schools
- Directed the staff development conference for the Association of American Schools in Brazil, 1972 and 1973: six schools held each year in São Paulo.
- International Seminar sponsored by Phi Delta Kappa to USSR in 1976 On return presented numerous programs on their educational system to student and education groups
- International Seminar sponsored by Phi Delta Kappa to East and West Berlin in 1980.
- Organized and directed four-week overseas experience for twelve ETSU graduate students to England in 1979, in conjunction with University of Sussex. (this first international program for ETSU was developed in partnership with UK professor)
- Initial Faculty of the ETSU programs in International Education to the United Kingdom in 1984 and 1985 in conjunction with University of Southern Mississippi (arranged for UK contacts for the comparative education program that involved 15 graduate students from ETSU and USM)
- Service on staff, International Camp Boy Scouts and Guides, Ardingly, England, 1984 (3000 scouts, 29 countries).
- Phi Delta Kappa,International. Twice served as president of chapter and served as elected Area Coordinator guiding 5 chapters in Texas for two years and representing PDK International to those chapters. Service at many functions of PDK, wrote local history of chapter, and originally initiated the chapter’s web site. Also served as the newsletter editor and vice-president for special programs. Presided over the year long program “Impact of World Shortages on Education” that brought numerous speakers to campus including H. Ross Perot speaking to a standing room only auditorium on “Leadership” in 1976.
