Presentation Abstract

The Technology Management programs at a US regional university recently responded to a call to expand the scope of a newly implemented Fast-Track BS+MS 4+1 curriculum to enable students in its Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences – Technology Management (BAAS-TMGT) program to take advantage of a similar accelerated option.  The resulting program will provide the opportunity for eligible undergraduate students in the BAAS program to experience a seamless transition from their undergraduate program into its corresponding graduate program.  This new program variation is expected to enhance marketing ability and encourage more students in the Community College to University pipeline to continue their academic journey through a graduate degree.

The ability to utilize designated courses for both the undergraduate and graduate degrees provides a seamless bridge into the master’s program and provides a greater return on investment for students opting to pursue the combined Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences and Master of Science degree program.  This strategic integration of curriculum provides students with an opportunity for financial savings and an accelerated path to program completion.  The presentation will provide the audience with a description of the process undertaken to devise and implement this transitional curriculum for the Fast-Track BAAS+BS as well as provide a progress report on the ongoing implementation of the new Fast-Track BS+MS Program.  Questions and comments from the audience are encouraged to facilitate a richer discussion.  Major points to be addressed include:

·        Primary goals of the integrated program.

·        Factors considered, challenges faced, and solutions implemented.

·        Additional advantages available to participating students.

·        Considerations for course selection and scheduling at the undergraduate, transitional, and graduate phases of the program.

·        Progress made toward, and lessons learned from, the recent implementation of the BS+MS program.

Attendees can draw from the experiences of the implementing department to inform the development of similar models for enhancement for their own programs.
