Rio Grande Ski Train Near Tolland on the Approach to East Portal and Moffat
Tunnel.
Near Tolland
The train made a brief unscheduled stop when a shifted load detector was
activated. Train crews walked the train and verified that all was well and we were
on our way. It was reassuring to see the crew's concern to safety.
While we were stopped, a fellow passenger was kind enough to snap a picture of
Jennifer and me.
Leaving Tolland and once again on our way to Moffat Tunnel under the
Continental Divide.
Approaching the East Portal of Moffat Tunnel. This picture was taken
through the double glass window of the car. Before entering the tunnel, all doors
and other openings are closed to prevent toxic fumes from the engine's exhaust from
entering the cars during the 15 minute trip through the 6.2 mile long tunnel.
One of the plaques on the right side of the East Portal Entrance, as seen
through the window.
West Portal of Moffat Tunnel upon arrival at Winter Park Resort. The car
shown is the Southern Pacific Utah. The last three cars in the set were Club Cars
bearing SP identification.
