Three groups formed today, each with a mission, a way to
complete our course goals.

TEAM COMMUNITY!!
Candy, Jennifer, Sara, Ashleigh, Cassie
Team COMMUNITY is going to work as a group to fulfill the course
objectives on the projects listed in the syllabus. We have started
throwing out ideas for things we might want to do, such as a DAP book
dealing with the ABC's (with maybe candy as our theme), a game of
opposites, a parent pack with book and activity, and a classroom plan
with Cassie and Jennifer using their classrooms as examples. Also, we
have discussed several ideas for a bulletin board and we are thinking
about an interactive board dealing with classroom jobs/responsibilities.

Museum –
Connie, Trina, Jeltje, Jill,
Our Children Museum Literacy Program decided to start off by meeting
with marypaz. Connie & Jill will meet with her and discuss when it would
be a good time to rummage through her backroom and see what she may or
may not have for the reading center. Trina and Jeltje will meet with
them and share what we have found out and go from there. They have ideas
on how to acquire books for the reading center and also maybe make some
backpacks to start out with. The backpack would consist of a book with
materials / activities to play along with the book. Making use of Jose
Aruego would be a great way to have an Open house to inform the
community about the Literacy Center. Not definite, but an idea that was
thrown out. |

Team Combo –
Catherine, Kim, Stephanie, Jamey, Jeltje
We are going to follow the guidelines given on the course
requirements sheet, but apply them to the children's museum. We are
going to focus on creating a proposal for possibly having a section
of the museum dedicated to physical education and nutrition. First,
we will make a Parent Pack explaining what this part of the museum
would include and the benefits of having the child be a part of it.
Second, we would design a bulletin board for that area of the
museum. Then we will devise a game for this area, possibly not a
board game though (not sure). Fourth, we will write a DAP Book for
teaching children physical education and nutrition. Lastly, we will
put together an idea of what type of environment would would like
this area to have (everything from design to materials needed).
These are our general ideas of how we would approach this project.

The Kostelnik, Soderman & Whiren (2004) textbook is our major resource on designing environments. The second textbook by Helms, Beneke, & Steinheimer (1998) will help us cultivate an observer's perspective. Bring both to class on Wednesday. |
