Celebration of Student Writing 2007

(a narrative by Kent Ross, Instructor of English and current PhD student in our program)

Students arrive from all over.

It's a Celebration!

Over 250 students jam the Student Center

It takes two ballrooms . . .

for all the booths . . .

and tables . . .

to be set up . . .

so all can browse . . .

each other's writing efforts for the semester . . .

and jam in to look

There are even snacks!

Entire families come. Children love it!

From the youngest

to the oldest.

Even lions

and eagles are there.

Students display their ethnographic projects with pride.

From farms . . .

to fast food.

From music . . .

to missions.

Colorful and artistic!

Posters are everywhere!

Smiles abound

as students show off

their semester's work

to those browsing

and explain it

with animation

and excitement!

Exhibits involve topics from international themes,

to emergency services,

to local churches,

to Sunday schools,

to local eateries,

such as the Bakery,

and the cafeteria.

From the beauty salon

to computer technology,

and from the zoo

to the frat house.

Meanwhile instructors are on hand to help

give last minute tips,

advice,

and encouragement.

United in their efforts

to promote writing.

Some students give more active demonstrations. . .

From shooting

to shooting.

From Taekwando

to Hookah Pipes.

From sacking

to selling.

From bows

to bows.

There are firefighters,

nurses,

and retail salespeople.

(don't ask)

University officials also attend to promote writing. (Instructor Jonne Akens, with Interim Head Paul Zelhart, Department of Literature and Languages)

Professor Bolin (Department of Literature and Languages)

is intrigued by a project.

Dean Klein (College of Arts and Sciences) and Professor Dunbar-Odom (Department of Literature and Languages) are delighted.

Dean Langford (College of Business and Technology) is impressed

as he talks with knowledgeable students.

Rachel Story even won an internship from her studies with D Magazine.

Educational good times . . .

as they celebrate their efforts.

Fun!

Conversation!

Friendship!

Thanks to Professor Shannon Carter (Department of Literature and Languages) for organizing
