The Former Texas & Pacific, Texas & New Orleans, and
Paris & Mt. Pleasant Railroads in Paris, Texas

The East-West mainline through Paris was served by the Texas & Pacific Railroad.  A segment of the Texas & New Orleans Railroad provided a link between the St. Louis Southwestern Railroad through Commerce and the Texas & Pacific and the Paris & Mt. Pleasant Railroads in Paris.  Regretibly, these links are now broken.  The only segment of the original lines left intact is the westward T&P rail assessible from Sherman, Texas.  The Texas Northeastern Railroad provides remaining railservice on the line.  In dispair, I witnessed the removal of the eastbound T&P trackage which ran immediately behind the building I was teaching in on the campus of Paris Junior College.  This came several years following the removal of the T&NO and P&MP trackage.   Fortunately for the Paris community, the T&NO depot still stands west of South Church Street south of downtown Paris and some rail traffic still trickles in and out on the remaining trackage.  Below are a few pictures of the depot, tracks, and structures associated with the former Texas & Pacific rail line.
Enjoy!
