Siding for train meets at Pine Cliff. Note: Pine Cliff is shown as
Pinecliffe on the Colorado map. |
|
Ice Shed at PineCliff. During winter, ice was cut from the adjacent pond
and stored in this building. During the summer, the blocks of ice were shipped, via
rail, down the mountain to Denver. |

Another view of South Boulder Creek. |
|
Approaching UP #3720, graciously waits in the Rollinsville siding for the Ski
Train to pass. |
|
A crew member of the UP #3720 stands clear and waves as the Ski Train
negotiates it's meet. |
|
The mixed freight makes it's exit as we clear the block below Rollinsville. |
|
A look back through car #8, Mount Massive, which is our home for the trip.
Unfortunalely, most of the best window seats were taken by children (or drunks on
the return trip) who either read comics, slept, or screamed for the entire trip.
(Obviously not railfans who could give a hoot about trains or the significance of the
route!!!) Note: If you decide to ride, be aware... alcohol is served on the
return trip so be prepared to tolerate a few obnoxious and inconsiderate idiots who think
they're obligated to screw up an otherwise pleasant trip with their overconsumption of
alcohol.

South Boulder Creek running between the railroad and the road to East Portal
between Rollinsville and Tolland. |
|
A look forward into car #7, Pyramid Peak. Michelle, our gracious car
hostess, is standing on the right. The people who work the train are volunteers!
They are typically compensated for their help with lift tickets at Winter Park. |
|
This park is located on the road to the East Portal. |
