Vocabulary Development with Young Children

Vocabulary development in young children happens through a combination of external influences interacting with tremendous internal mechanisms, the need to know.

Montessori values the power of the eye-hand-brain nexus, where knowing something requires interaction, manipulations, trial-and-error, and a supportive prepared environment. One key term she uses is stereognostic, knowing something (gnosis) in more than one way (stereo).
