Language leads us together. We learn to talk through interaction with our earliest caregivers. They don't just teach us words, but the ways words work. All this early language acquisition shapes the ways we think about ourselves and the world. Some experience language that defines and restricts them, becoming an “us versus them” mentality. Others experience early language as an avenue to explore and experience sameness and differences.
